Some information about who runs grswales.co.uk

Website

grswales.co.uk is dedicated to helping those living in Wales having problems getting help and/or funding for GRS (Gender Reassignment Surgery) especially from the Health Commission Wales (HCW) who believe there is no clinical need.

This site was started for the very simple fact that those living in Wales are ostracized for something that we were born with by the Health Commission Wales. Surely a small amount of funding can be found by the Health Commission Wales somewhere to help those in need.

The website is solely ran by myself in the quest that the Health Commission Wales will change their views on Gender Dysphoria, as at the moment they view it with closed eyes and deaf ears, in a view that they find no clinical need for those needing surgery.

    A Bit Of History

I myself started the ball rolling in November 1999 and finally in April 2001 had a one off appointment with my Clinical Psychologist, after which it took until July 2002 to finally get on the list for a proper appointment with my Clinical Psychologist.

After what seemed an eternity of appointments I was finally diagnosed and allowed to start on conjugated oestrogens (Premarin) in June 2003 and Adrocur in July 2004.

On the 13th December 2004 a request for funding for Gender Reassignment Surgery was made to the Health Commission Wales, who blatantly turned it down. Since then I have been contacting MPs, AMs and many other to try and get the Health Commission Wales to reconsider, but they can not be moved and always seem to be moving the preverbal goal posts making it harder and harder to receive funding, which such comments as "No Clinical Need" and "Only in exceptional cases" of which nobody is clear on what an exceptional case is.

So the paper work is increasing with all the copies of letters sent and received.

So this website was set up in a hope that people would see the problems that those with Gender Dysphoria are facing from the "those in the know" at the Health Commission Wales.

But it's been a long road, six years so far, and it seems the road is just going to get even longer.

The Health Commission Wales are still refusing to respond to myself and my specialist, it now seems that they have a blatant disregard for the health and welfare of those with gender dysphoria living in Wales.

NEW UPDATE: On the 14 April 2007, I finally went for Gender Surgery, but it was not paid for by the Health Commission Wales, I paid for it out of my own pocket with no help from the HCW whatsoever. But the fight still goes on for those just starting their transition.
